Looking at horn sections in major orchestras across the world, almost all of them have at least one Paxman triple in the section, and not necessarily bright and shiny new ones. This 85A, built sometime in the 1990s or early 2000s, is exactly that, with an impressive valve compression across the 5 valves of 1.6.

All parts of the horn appear to be original, with a less commonly seen nickel silver bell tail and flare which gives it a bit brighter tone color to compensate for the detachable "A" (American) bell size. The rest of the horn is made of unlacquered yellow brass, and two leather hand guards have been added to protect the horn and prevent your hands from turning green. All valves are string linkage except for the lower thumb key, which is traditional Paxman minibal mechanical linkage. It is a compensating triple, meaning the horn combines the B flat and shortened slides to generate the correct length of tubing for F. The high F change valve is located only 5 or 6 centimeters from the mouthpiece, which gives the horn a more even sound when switching between keys.

The horn does not come with a case, and could be shipped out for a trial whenever you're ready to work a little less hard with a great triple horn!
