Every now and then I open a case and am flummoxed by what I see. This was one of those moments. I've never seen a 'Student Model' Paxman of this vintage. The current models are nothing like this horn. My guess is that either Paxman had someone else make this, or it was a small run for someone. This is an unlacquered compensating double. The valve caps have adjustment screws to reduce up and down rotor motion. The horn is pretty 'substantial' in that the brass is thick! If you've got a rough and tumble upcoming hornist this might be the perfect instrument for them OR if you're a collector, this is a unique horn. The compression is 2.9 on the Bb side of the horn, so using more viscous oil will help when playing on the F side. Lots of small dings here and there. This is such a cool horn!
The case it came with is a home-made case and I would NOT suggest shipping it in this case.
