I like to consider descant horns as 'job security'.  If you've got some touchy high stuff to play you whip out your descant.  I still recall going to hear the Vienna Phil play Shostakovich 5 and was eagerly waiting to hear that high solo.  Low and behold, the principal player set down his Vienna horn and picked up a Paxman descant - same model as this one.  The sound was gorgeous and the playing was secure!

This one is made of yellow brass (no lacquer) and has good compression 2.0 (across 5 valves!).  There is evidence of repair to the bell at the big brace (shipping damage somewhere along the line) and assorted solder joints associated with that repair.  Other than that it's in great condition. Professionally owned and maintained.  A Clebsch strap has been added for extra comfort.  This one is the 'L' (Large) bore.  That larger bell throat means that the high F side of the horn sounds indistinguishable from the double side of the horn. The extra 'stoppiing' valves means that all gestopf playing will be in tune!

No case included.
