Good Elkhart 8D's are becoming more and more scarce.  For decades they've been America's 'Go To' horn and thus most of them have been played so much that they're often made up out of multiple replacement parts.  This L series 8D was made in 1968 and it has wonderful compression (1.9). Played professionally in the St. Louis Symphony it has a Patterson leadpipe and a detachable flare.  Luckily the lacquer has been stripped (Conn lacquer is extremely hard and that results in deep pitting in their horns).  There is one guard on the inside of the bell tail by the thumb lever to prevent thinning and wear there.  This horn has a GREAT high register (they all have great low registers~!).  Overall it's in great condition.  I can see where a flipper was removed (solder marks still there) and where there once was a dent removed in the bell flare, but other than that it is quite extraordinary.
The original 8D case is included, though the handle is broken.  If you decide to purchase this horn I would suggest not getting this case, or if you do - getting the handle replaced.
