There's a reason why Steve Lewis (Famous Chicago horn maker) decided to collaborate with Dietmar Durk in making horns. Dietmar's creativity AND his high attention to detail aligned perfectly with Steve's own ability to excel in those ways. The two of them have come up with some of the most desired horns in the business. To give an idea of how wonderful the machining is on these instruments the compression is perfect - and what is interesting about this is that that 'perfect' compression includes the leadpipe with a threaded nib which allows for changing to a european shank mouthpiece if desired. To get threads to be air tight is a work of art! So, about this horn, it is made of lacquered yellow brass with a detachable bell (A Lawson/Alexander compatible ring) with a hand hammered flare (these, alone, are about $1100!!).
There is a Durk flipper and adjustable finger hook so that you can position your hand just right for the piston. The piston is another work of art! If you wish to have your horn stand in Bb you simply remove the piston, and put the guide and stem on the reverse end - and voila!. These horns were designed with the input from Dale Clevenger (former principal hornist of the Chicago Symphony for many decades). I could not find any dents or dings on this horn though there is some lacquer wear here and there.
This is truly a professional instrument. Powerful in all ranges with a rock solid high Bb. Professionally owned and maintained. Save a bunch of $ over a new one!
