The third edition presents MRI images and data of an elite group of 12 horn players, including Stefan Dohr, Fergus McWilliam, Sarah Willis, Stefan Jezierski (all of the Berlin Philharmonic), Marie-Luise Neunecker, Jeff Nelsen, and others. MRI films confirm that what we do internally, inside the mouth, pharynx, and thoracic cavity is just as important as what we do externally. And, just as there are hallmarks of healthy embouchures that most professional horn players employ, there are many consistent internal movement patterns among the elite group. Epstein presents tried and true methods to learn and teach these exemplary biomechanics.
“Without a doubt the most physiologically correct book ever published on horn playing.” ~John Ericson, Horn Matters

NEW 3rd Edition! “The materials and ideas in this book have had many reincarnations over the last 25 years. I wanted to see if there were universal tools that we could reliably use to take the technical mysteries out of horn playing in order to allow a greater sense of freedom and enjoyment. I discovered with great excitement that these principles were indeed helpful to others.”

Very Helpful!
As an amateur horn player, I'm finding this book a tremendous help in gaining an understanding of the mechanics of playing. The discussions on vowels and breath support have been particularly useful for me immediately, and there are plenty of other tips that I can continue to implement as I improve (and I do believe there's plenty of technical information that a seasoned professional could benefit from as well)

Fast Delivery
The book came in good shape, but I was most impressed with the speed with which the product was mailed. Lightning quick! This is especially impressive during a pandemic. Well done.

Useful insights and techniques for playing better and smarter
Eli Epstein does a very nice job explaining the basics of good play, from posture and breathing to embouchure and jaw positioning. He even includes a nice selection of warm-up exercises. Best of all, he applies his principles to many common orchestral excerpts making this an extremely practical, useful book. Well done Eli!
