Getchell, Second Practical Studies for French Horn
This is a very good book for a fairly advanced player. It contains melodic etudes that make sense musically. The range goes only a little above the staff and below, but within that range are plenty of passages which are difficult to play well, including passages with large leaps up and down, though always musically coherent. Some of my other exercise books cover the full range of the horn more methodically, such as presenting flexibility and scale patterns in every key. But the exercises in those books lack musical interest and can become boring, since the focus of those exercises is strictly on developing technique.
