Conn 28D #N36780 MA

$2,200.00

This well loved Conn 28D is the proverbial 'wolf in sheep's clothing'.  It doesn't look like much, but if you look (listen) beyond the imperfections it is an amazing playing horn.  Professionally played in the Detroit Symphony - it is sporting rebuilt rotors which explains why it has perfect compression (0.1).  The lacquer has been stripped, a waterkey has been added, and a flipper was installed.  For many decades the Detroit symphony used 28D's - especially during their 'French' period in the late 50's and early 60's.  The recordings by former principal hornist Robert Fries (check out the Pavanne with Paul Paray conducting) shows how a 28D can sound in an orchestra.  This horn, as was stated, was well loved and played a LOT.  Thus there are multiple patches and guards: Inside the flare, on the knuckle by the 4th rotor, and the 2 F tuning slides.  The lower F tuning slide should best be replaced given that there is some dezincification there.  All this being said - this horn plays!  Why settle for a cheap poorly made instrument when for much less money you can get a truly professional horn.  Put a bit of money into it and it will be worth far more than what it is selling for right now.

Conn Fixed bell case is included.
