Let me start off by saying that the way this horn looks vs the way this horn plays are 2 entirely different things. This horn has been sitting unplayed for almost a 7 years and thus the finish has deteriorated. Now, that being said, the compression is AMAZING with a reading of 0.9 over 6 valves (ASTOUNDING), and the horn has just been ultrasonically cleaned. The owner had to stop playing for medical reasons but held onto the horn for sentimental reasons. So - Yes, the horn is ugly because of all the discoloration under the lacquer and the lacquer flaking off in places, BUT, that ugliness doesn't reflect how the horn plays or what kind of mechanical condition it is in. In other words, it plays great, has tight valves with good compression, has just been cleaned, but it's ugly. :) So, those visual defects are worth many thousands of dollars given that these models are often around 10K (OR MORE) on the used market. There are lots of minor dings in the bell flare but the body is in fine shape.
