Schmidt horns were prominent in the 'big 5' orchestras and are still found played there to this day, from the NY Philharmonic to the Chicago Symphony. This horn has a custom (Lawson?) leadpipe and has been converted to a detachable bell (Yamaha bell ring). The silver plating on the bell typically means that it passed through Karl Geyers workshop. The horn is made of unlacquered yellow brass. There are protective patches at the top of the horn where it is carried and one smaller patch by the thumb piston valve and knuckle guards have been added at the piston. . A flipper and dimes have been added for comfort. It has a very secure high Bb (not always the case on these horns).
