Aside from moderate wear on the lacquer and some minor dents, this horn is in otherwise quite good shape, with a valve compression of 1.0 across all five valves, including the stopping valve. This horn also comes with a Lawson Nickel 030 flare, which is a very early model and hand-engraved by Lawson.

This descant horn plays quite well and rings solidly in all registers. In addition, the high F side carries the same smooth tone of the Bb side.

  • Kühn Triple Horn W393X Model
$15,000.00
Price: $15,000.00

As the successor of the successful model W393, the W393X is one of our best selling horn models since its introduction. Depending on the sound, the W393X is one of the best balanced triple horns available. The tone is fabulous across all dynamic variations.

This Kühn W393X is a brand new, unused gem. Its valve compression of 0.1, reflects its incredibly high quality. It is unlacquered and has a cut bell. It comes with a hard cut bell case.

Kühn Model 293 - $8895

  • Kühn Model 293 - $9110
$8,895.00
Price: $8,895.00

Our best selling model so far is the "Ricco Kühn" Double Horn Model W293. This double horn represents a further development of the well-known Reißmann/Börner-instruments. The wide bell flare has been completely revised and is now mensurated according to the latest computations. It is available in two different sizes, the Standard, and the German (slightly larger) tapers. In connection with the somewhat narrower mouth pipe the horn sounds balanced and massive in all registers. The easy response and the substantial, carrying sound is characteristic for this design.

Kühn 393X Triple Horn - $16500

  • Kuhn 393X Triple Horn - $16500
$16,500.00
Price: $16,500.00
As the successor of the successful model W393 the W393X is one of our best selling horn models since its introduction. It has a separate crook for F alto part and is also playable in F/Bb/Eb alto with an additional Eb crook set. Depending on the sound the W393X is one of the best balanced triple horns available. The tone is fabulous across all dynamic variations. Playing the Bb part is like playing a double horn. You won't feel a difference! In the low range the F side has a powerful sound which will add depth and beauty to any section you would play in.

Kühn 313X Descant Horn (High F/Eb Convertible w/Slides) - $9250

  • Kuhn 313X Descant Horn (High F/Eb Convertible w/Slides) - $9250
  • Kuhn 313X Descant Horn (High F/Eb Convertible w/Slides) - $9250
$9,250.00
Price: $9,250.00

I recently filled a 'special' order for one of these horns and was so impressed that I've decided to add them on my site. The 313X Descant (interchangable between High F, or Eb) is a gorgeously crafted instrument and it plays like a dream. The price on the one pictured includes the engraved garland.

Here's the specs on it from Ricco's site:

Kühn 293X-S Custom Special Double - $10750

  • Kuhn 293X-S Custom Special Double - $10750
  • Kuhn 293X-S Custom Special Double - $10750
$10,750.00
Price: $10,750.00

Compact design, great handling, easy to play with safe resistance in pp and mf, great adaptability, etc. The 293X-S Custom Special focuses well and has great power and carrying capabilities in all dynamic ranges. Originally this model was conceived of after constructing a W 293 X with a Bb crook. After comprehensive studies Ricco recognized the potential of this idea. The higher resistance offers much more safety in the high range which is not available with most of the current horns on the market. The result is a new double horn which offers that amazing 'German' sound and feel.

Kühn 293X - $9110

  • Ricco Kuhn 293X New Model - $9110
$9,110.00
Price: $9,110.00

Introducing the new W-293-X double horns by Ricco Kuhn. Why tamper with success? Previously all existing Ricco Kuhn horns were fundamentally based on the Reissmann/Borner design. Ricco took this foundation and, through further testing and development, made slight changes while leaving the general proportions between the bell and mouthpipe unchanged. This design has proven to be quite successful from the single Bb horns - through the double horns. Kuhn horns have been made to the highest manufacturing and playing standards.

Kruspe Single F (Eb Slide Included) - $2000

  • Kruspe Single F (Eb Slide Included) - $2000
  • Kruspe Single F (Eb Slide Included) - $2000
  • Kruspe Engraving
$2,000.00
Price: $2,000.00

This lacquered yellow brass Kruspe includes the original slide to convert the horn to Eb. The engraving of the 'flying eagle' on the bell is gorgeous. This horn can be played as is, or if someone has a Kruspe in need of a new flare - this is it. No case.

Cost: $2000

Kruspe Double - $2500 CP

  • Kruspe Double - $3600 CP
  • Kruspe Double - $3600 CP
$2,500.00
Price: $2,500.00

The bell on this Kruspe is in fabulous condition with engraving as clear as the day it was made. The valves are in need of a rebuild, and this the poor compression numbers (6.0). So it is difficult to determine the true potential of this horn. No case included. $2500

Kruspe Double #147 - $4,000

  • Kruspe Double Weird Wrap Two Change Valves
  • Kruspe Double Unlacquered Original
$4,000.00
Price: $4,000.00

This original Kruspe is unique in its use of two change valves instead of the standard one. The valves are on oposite sides of the normal valve section. This horn is in pretty good exterio condition with few minor dents. It is unlacquered. The valve compression registers a solid 3.5 across all five valves, which is good for a horn of this age. This horn could definitely be a good collectors item or a good horn for a loving home.

Kruspe Compensating Double Horn (Wendler) - $2400

  • Kruspe Compensating Double Horn - $2400
  • Kruspe Compensating Double Horn - $2400
$2,400.00
Price: $2,400.00

This is a Compensating Double Kruspe Horn. This is a true Wendler model as opposed to the Gumbert model, which has the "funky" f tuning slide. On the Wendler model all four rotors are the same size and the first Bb slide is curved. This horn is all original with an added patch in the bell and one on the leadpipe. It is unlacquered and the engraving is as clear and sharp as the day the horn was made. With a valve job this horn could be a fabulous instrument. The compression rating is 6.4 (8 is the worst possible score). Original fixed bell case is included.

Cost: $2400.00

Kruspe Brass Full Double - $4200

  • Kruspe Brass Full Double - $4200.00
  • Kruspe Brass Full Double - $4200.00
$4,200.00
Price: $4,200.00

This Kruspe double made of unlacquered brass has tight valves and not a single patch on it anywhere. The leadpipe looks to be from a Conn 8D but it's hard to say - either way, it plays great. These horns spurred the American horn soun. Try this one out - it costs less than a new Hoyer copy. Grey FB case included.

Cost: $4200.00

Kruspe Brass Double - $4500

  • Kruspe Brass Double - $4500
  • Kruspe Brass Double - $4500
$4,500.00
Price: $4,500.00

This unlacquered brass Kruspe double has the best of both worlds. It has that fabulous 'classic' horn sound of old yet it's been 'modernized' by Walter Lawson though the addition of a Lawson Leadpipe and a valve rebuild. The compression number is 4 but that is due to slides which need to be expanded or a thicker grease since the individual valves give readings below 2 (better than many new horns). There is no dezincification on this horn - it has decades of use left in it. Professionally owned and maintained. Holton Fixed bell case included.

Cost: $4500.00

King Pelletier 'Schmidt' Model - $1500 ON TRIAL

  • King Pelletier 'Schmidt' Model - $1500

Karl Dressel Double Horn - $2500

  • Karl Dressel Double Horn
  • Karl Dressel Double
$2,500.00
Price: $2,500.00

Karl Dressel was a  hornmaker between 1919 and 1977, and an importer in the 1940s and 1950s. He lived and worked in a town in Saxony, which was famous for musical instrument manufacturing. This Karl Dressel horn is a very rare horn, and plays like a Kruspe. It is in overall good condition, with some dents throughout the instrument. It is made of unlacquered yelow brass, and has a detachable bell. This horn has a particularly good low range, and registers a fantastic 0.2 on the compression testing machine. Holton fixed bell case included. $2500

  • Jungwirth Vienna Horn
  • Vienna Horn Jungwirth

Jungwirth Vienna horns have been crafted to preserve the famous Vienna Horn sound, and measure up to what is expected from a modern top-level instrument. This horn is made of many hand-hammered parts, and has a beautiful bell with garland. This is a great instrument, and has been well-maintained. It sports a great 1.0 on the compression testing machine. Black Jungwirth gig bag included. $5,000

Hoyer K10A-L Custom Double - $9620

  • Hoyer K10A-L Custom Double - $9620
  • Hoyer K10A-L Custom Double - $9620
$9,620.00
Price: $9,620.00

The K10 represents the 'flagship' of the Hoyer line. Beautifully made, detail to attention, and 'extras' such as an interchangable mouthpiece receiver so you  never need to change mouthpieces again to match the taper. I suspect that this horn will be a huge hit for players looking for that perfect match of airflow and resistance.

Hans Hoyer – The Next Generation
The new K10 F/Bb-Double horn is the newest innovation for the orchestra:

Hoyer G10 (#430268) $4000

  • Hoyer G10
  • Hoyer Double
$4,000.00
Price: $4,000.00

The G10 is one of Hoyers most successful ventures in the last 30 years. It became an instant success when it premiered. It was based on a Geyer that Hoyer purchased as a template. This one is in original very good condition with very few minor dings. There once was a duck foot which was removed. The compression measures a 0.2. If you're looking to get into a Geyer style horn this is the way to go. Made of lacquered yellow brass with a detachable bell. It includes a Hoyer Detachable Bell case. $4000

Hoyer G10 #422138 $3995

  • Hoyer G10 Double Horn #422138
$3,995.00
Price: $3,995.00

The Hoyer G10 is a fabulous Geyer copy horn.  It's arrival on the market 10 years ago was greeted with much fanfare and it has become a fabulous success in direct competition with the Yamaha Geyer models.  This lacquered, detachable bell G10 is in good condition with minor dings.  The compression rating is a 3.4 (Hoyer horns typically have lower compression ratings to facilitate easier slurring).
A Hoyer detachable bell case is included.

Hoyer G-10-L2 Geyer Wrap - $5441.00

  • Hoyer G-10-L2 Geyer Wrap
$5,441.00
Price: $5,441.00

I was very excited when Hoyer told me that they were purchasing an original Geyer double horn so that they could study it and come out with a true modern copy which was affordable. This is the newest model in the Hans Hoyer line of professional horns made in Germany by B&S. This is a full double horn in Bb/F, and can be set to stand in either key. The Geyer model has a smaller throat bell than the Kruspe style instruments in the Heritage and Bloom lineups. But the body is a larger diameter, with broader curves, offering less resistance.

  • Hoyer Descant 5810 #367367 - $4995
  • Hoyer Descant 5810 #367367 - $4995
$4,995.00
Price: $4,995.00

This "like new" descant is a rare model not found in the US. It was imported here from Europe, and is the only one I've ever seen like it. They compression testing over all six valves is a 1.6, which is very good. It is made of lacquered yellow brass, with a fixed bell, and is in pristine condition. You can own a "like new" descant for under $5,000. Hoyer fixed bell case included.

Holton H177 #473294 $2500

  • Used Holton French Horn
  • Holton Double French Horn Model H177
$2,500.00
Price: $2,500.00

Everyone remembers the first time they saw a double horn in high school and the odds are it was a Holton. Holtons have been the standard doubles for many decades and are still quality horns. This older H177 harkens back to a time before Conn purchased the Holton factory and when Holtons were extremely well made. This 177 is made of lacquered nickel with a fixed bell and is in extremely good condition. The compression registers a 1.0 thus, mechanically, it is almost a new horn. Evidence of one solder joint repair can be seen. At this price it is an excellent value.

Holton Elkhorn Wis. #491608 - $4,200

$4,200.00
Price: $4,200.00

This unlacquered Holton double horn has spent the last few years growing into its body with a beautiful patina whose colors are just one hint to the colors offered by the horn itself. The valve compression, at 2.0, is no representation of how easily the horn slides through its registers, maintaining the free-blowing, easy sound offered by many top-notch custom horns. Even in the extreme reaches of the horn range, this Holton extends an ease of playing, allowing the player to focus on artistry, and not endurance.

Herbert Knopf Compensating Double Horn - $3500

  • Herbert Knopf Compensating Double Horn - $3500
  • Herbert Knopf Compensating Double Horn - $3500
$3,500.00
Price: $3,500.00

This is a compensating Double Horn by Herbert Knopf. Compensating doubles are much lighter than a full double - yet they have all the range as their heavier counterparts.  Tuning a compensating double is a little more involved - but once it's set they're great horns. Knopf compensating doubles are rare. This one is made of lacquered brass - the valve compression is about 68.00%. Conn FB plastic case included.

Cost: $3500.00

Geyer Single F w/Eb Valve - $3495

  • Geyer Single F w/Eb Valve - $3495
  • Geyer Single F w/Eb Valve - $3495
  • Geyer Engraving; Gorgeous Geyer engraving
$3,495.00
Price: $3,495.00

This Single F Geyer is gorgeous. It's been in storage for many, many years and has had just one owner. The $3500 price is 'high' for a single F horn - but the bell on this instrument is in such amazing condition that if you own a Geyer with a worn out bell you will want to purchase this instrument simply for the bell - or if you're a collector this is a one of a kind horn. I've never seen another one - ever! Original Geyer Case included.

Cost: $3495.00

Geyer Single Bb w/Stopping Valve & F Extension - $3200

  • Geyer Single Bb w/Stopping Valve & F Extension - $3200
  • Geyer Single Bb w/Stopping Valve & F Extension - $3200
$3,200.00
Price: $3,200.00

I wasn't certain whether I should list this horn in the 'specialty' section. Though this horn is a single Bb horn it has a built in F extension valve which allows for all the pedal notes on the F horn - and, it has a stopping valve as well. When I began playing extra with the Boston Symphony I noticed that many of the players there owned this model and they would pull them out for the smaller 'chamber' pieces. These horns sound great and due to their lightness they play with ease. Across 5 valves the compression rating is 3.9. Conn Fixed Bell case included.

Cost: $3200.00

Geyer Double Horn $200 IM

  • Geyer Double Horn fixed bell $8200 IM
  • Used Geyer Double horn in Great condition
  • Geyer Engraving
$8,200.00
Price: $8,200.00

This unlacquered yellow brass Geyer is a true classic.  There are NO patches anywhere on it, and the bell has no signs of any previous damage or wear (No thin spots).  The valves register a 3.0 on the compression testing maching (the best possible score is a 0.1 and the worst is a 8.0).  The inner slides have all been silver plated, rather than expanded, and all move smoothly.  The leadpipe (not original) has A.5 stamped on it.  There is an Amado waterkey on the leadpipe as well.  GREAT high range and solid Bb on this horn.

ProTec fixed bell case is included.

Geyer Double - $10,000

  • Geyer Double Original Cut Bell Unlacquered
  • Original Geyer Double Horn Unlacquered Cut Bell Wrap Rebuilt Valves
$10,000.00
Price: $10,000.00

This Geyer horn is almost all original, with the exception of a Yamaha custom leadpipe from the legendary Yamaha 861 (no longer available) and rebuilt valves. In addition, this horn's bell was cut by Geyer himself, which is very rare, and has an original Geyer ringset. The horn is in great shape with no dents or patches on the body and only a few dings in the bell. The bell has been silver plated on the inside, but much of the silver plate has worn off. The leadpipe on this horn is braced, unstead of directly soldered to the bell, which is another interesting trait.

Geyer Double (JS) - $9000

  • Geyer Double (JS) - $9000
  • Geyer Double (JS) - $9000
  • Geyer Engraving
$9,000.00
Price: $9,000.00

This Geyer is almost entirely 'original'. All tubing is original including the leadpipe. The valves have amazing compression pulling a 1.4 on the compression tester. The thumb linkage has been changed to a very efficient and quiet German minibal articulated string linkage. If you've been waiting for a good Geyer to come on the market this would be one to try. Geyer case included.

Cost: $9000.00

Geyer 'Schmidt' Model Double - $4995

  • Geyer 'Schmidt' Model Double
  • Geyer 'Schmidt' Model Double
$4,995.00
Price: $4,995.00

Carl Geyer made many Schmidt model horns. They were some of the earliest models he made upon his arrival to America and they were made from German valve sections. This one is made of unlacquered brass and has a great high Bb on it. Lots of years left on it. The compression reading is 2.3. The valves have obviously been rebuilt and thus the amazing readings. A true collectable and a great 'player'. A Marcus Bonna MB2 case is included.

Cost: $4995

  • Elk Double Horn 'Kruspe Style' - $4995
$4,995.00
Price: $4,995.00

I'm certain that many of you are shocked that I am carrying this ELK double french horn - as it is made in China.  That being said - it is quite an amazing horn (and it is not priced at the usual 'Chinese' Ebay horn prices). This model has been under design for a while with Barry Tuckwell. The valves, the slides, the finish work is all top notch. Try this horn out - then see what you think of the new high end instruments coming out of China. It is made of lacquered yellow brass, with a .468 bore, and has a detachable bell. An MB1 style case is included.

This 'Vintage' 8D (Conn V8D) is serial number 82. To list it as a 'used' horn is almost wrong. Don't get me wrong - it is used - but barely. There's not a dent on it. It's cherry! The Vintage series was created as a throw back to the Elkhart 8Ds of fame. If you're tired of trying out beat up Elkhart models - try this out.

It has a detachable bell, the inside of which has been silver plated, and there are a few patches on and near the first branch and the first and third F slides. The valves have been rebuilt and the horn has very good compression for a horn of its age. Along with looking somewhat like a gem, it also plays very well. $2,800.00

Tgough this horn is missing most of its lacquer and has some significant damage to the bell, it actually plays quite well and projects better than most 8Ds. The valves have not been rebuilt but it does have good compression, which is a testament to the good workmanship put into the making of this horn. Unlike other horns with wide throats, this 8D actually has a brighter tone and smooth connection between the Bb and F sides. It is somewhat of a joy to play, but doesn't lie about the player's ability, meaning it doesn't play itself.

This is the classic Elkhart 8D in way better exterior condition than you would find most 8Ds of this age. The horn has been completely buffed and relaquered with most dents removed and, to return it to its former glory, it needs a valve rebuild.
