Holton 178 horns are popular student model horns that are really great options. Given the relatively recent movement in the professional world toward yellow brass medium bore horns, I'd say a yellow brass Holton 178 would be a better option than a nickel silver horn like an 8D.
This horn is in good shape; it's got a great valve compression of about 0.7 with all the valves using string linkage to operate. It has an original Holton pinky ring for left hand comfort and a lever style spit valve installed off of the leadpipe. There are a few very small dings in the bell flare and tail, as well as some lacquer scars from where dents have previously been removed, but nothing major or that would contribute to anything acoustically. There are a fair amount of scratches throughout the horn as well as some lacquer deterioration, but again that is only cosmetic and would not impact sound production. The horn is fixed bell and comes with a Holton fixed bell hard case.
